Section of road (USRN: 36500905) approx 50 metres long had multiple large pot holes and verges crumbling away on both sides making it unavoidable and quite dangerous. There are more similar sections slightly further up the road in Clunton Coppice woodland.

Reported via mobile in the Road surface issue category anonymously at 16:17, Thursday 20 August 2026

Sent to Shropshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 14217830.

The potholes and Crumbling verges have been present for several months, and are getting a lot worse. During a recent forest fire on Black Hill, fires appliances had to negotiate this poor road surface with extreme care - this was made even harder due to their location on a steep section of hill.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting us. This note is to confirm that we have received your report and we'll be in touch with an update as soon as possible.

  • Our response to a pothole report will depend upon several factors. These include the severity of the defect, how busy the road is and its proximity to other defects or hazards.

We have very limited resources and budget. At times of high demand- such as emergency storm situations- we may take longer to respond than we would prefer.

We are also mindful of other works planned for the road. This includes external contractors or utilities and our long term road renewal program.

Temporary repairs may be applied on very busy roads where special traffic management or further investigation may be needed or in an emergency situation. Repairs may be completed in stages, not all at once.

The road will continue to be regularly inspected as per our policy. If the pothole becomes an imminent danger, please call our customer call centre on 0345 678 9006, giving your report reference number, and the situation can be reassessed.

To read more about what constitutes a safety defect and how we are managing pothole repairs, please see our website here: https://next.shropshire.gov.uk/ roads-and-highways/
