Encroachment of hedge onto highway
Sent to Shropshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 14213992.
Hedge has grown so far beyond the kerb it is making access to garages difficult. Vehicles have to mount the kerb to traverse properly.
Owner seemingly does not maintain. The highways act requires the council to enforce free passage along the highway.
I suggest the hedge is trimmed to the kerbline or beyond

The vast majority of hedges are privately owned and maintained. Privately maintained hedges are assessed based upon an inspection.
If the hedge is deemed to be above an actionable level, we will try to establish who the land owner is to ask them to undertake the work themselves. We give a reasonable time frame to comply with our request. If necessary, we can serve a notice upon the land/ property owner requiring them to cut the hedge back for encroachment and/ or safety.
Hedge maintenance should be undertaken outside the bird nesting season which runs from 1st March to 30th September. However, Notices issued to rectify safety issues override the bird nesting season.
This process can take a number of weeks due to the land registry requirements and associated timescales of serving notice under the Highways Act so the hedge may remain overgrown for some time.

Its a reoccuring problem. You wrote to the landowner in 2023 with the same issue. Detais are still here on fix my street.

As for cutting hedges in the bird nesting season - the offence is disturbing nesting birds. If no nesting birds, no offence. Simple ecological walkover required. Similarly a trim to remove the worse branches would not offer any risk of offence.

Unfortunately, the issue that you have reported isn't the responsibility of Shropshire Council. However, if possible, we will raise the issue with the appropriate organisation and ask them to contact you.
