Excessive Unauthorised Flags in Residential Area

Reported via mobile in the Street lighting other issue category anonymously at 15:23, Thursday 26 February 2026

Sent to Shropshire Council 1 minute later. Council ref: 14203169.

I am writing to raise a concern regarding the increasing number of flags being displayed along this street and the surrounding road leading into several residential estates.

I fully support the right of individuals to express pride in our country and I respect the sentiment behind flying a flag on private land or authorised areas. However, the current volume of flags being displayed on lampposts has become excessive and is having a negative impact on the overall appearance of the area as well as emitted light onto the roads.

The flags appear to have been put up in a coordinated way, but regardless of who is responsible, the volume is now affecting the entire road leading into multiple estates. 20 continuous flags have been attached to lampposts along this road all of which appear to be unauthorised due to attachment via cable ties. The sheer quantity not only effects the emitted light but also has made the area look cluttered and, in places, quite unsightly.

As this is a residential neighbourhood, maintaining a tidy and welcoming environment is important for residents and visitors alike. I would appreciate it if the council could review whether the flags have the necessary permissions and take appropriate action where required.

Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.
