Pot holes in middle of road unavoidable due to traffic lights no street lights
Reported via desktop in the Pothole in a road category anonymously at 19:50, Monday 23 February 2026
Sent to Shropshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 14202611.
I am writing to raise a formal complaint and to request compensation for extensive damage caused to my vehicle due to multiple severe potholes on a public road under Shropshire Council’s responsibility. I have attached photographic evidence and repair documentation in support of this complaint.
The potholes were unavoidable due to several contributing factors. There were no warning signs, no hazard markings, and no evidence of temporary repairs or stone infill. The road is controlled by traffic lights, leaving no opportunity to safely avoid the damaged areas. In addition, fallen branches and debris from trees had not been cleared, further limiting safe passage. The absence of street lighting meant that, particularly during evening travel, it was impossible to judge the depth or severity of the potholes.
As a registered nurse working within the local GP practice, I rely on my vehicle to travel to and from work to serve the community. I do not earn a high income, and I have now received a substantial garage repair bill that I am unable to afford. This damage occurred while travelling for work purposes, and the financial impact has caused significant distress.
I am extremely concerned that such hazardous road conditions were left unaddressed, particularly given the lack of warning signage and visible safety measures. I would like this matter fully investigated, including:
Why no warning or hazard signs were in place Whether the road had been inspected and maintained appropriately Why fallen branches and road debris were not cleared Why no temporary or permanent pothole repairs had been carried out
I am requesting compensation for the cost of repairs to my vehicle and would appreciate confirmation of how this claim will be handled, including timescales and any reference number for my complaint.
Please acknowledge receipt of this complaint and advise of the next steps. I look forward to your response.
Yours faithfully,
Amanda Mammone
