Surface of pathway sunk

Reported via mobile in the Pavement surface issue category anonymously at 09:50, Thursday 12 February 2026

Sent to Shropshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 14200214.

Hello, The surface of the pathway outside 56 Bridgeway, Shawbury has sunk causing a trip hazard, holding water that freezes in cold weather causing both a slip and skid hazard and contributing to damage caused to the edging of my driveway. Shropshire Highways have previously repaired this section of pathway, from the end of the road to the bollards that separate Bridgeway from River Gardens but it is now worse than it was before. The trip and slip hazards are made worse by local youths using the raised edging as jumps for cycles and edge rides for scooters and skateboarding. I have witnessed a number of accidents, it’s only a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt. The sunken area directly at the bottom of my driveway causes two specific issues. The first is when it freezes, there is a skid hazard, for the cyclists, pedestrians and particularly for me when entering my driveway. Again, there have been near misses already. The second issue caused significant damage to edging at the bottom of my driveway. The edging stones were used as I’ve explained eventually causing them to move out of line and break. The edge of the driveway subsequently deteriorated. I have had to have my driveway resurfaced and the edging replaced at a cost to me of over £10,000, I don’t want this ongoing problem to cause more damage. I am sorry to trouble you, I know that you are busy and that money is very limited but I am hoping that you can see that I have done my bit and that you can help before more damage is caused or, more importantly, someone is hurt. Thank you, Gary Higgins
