Road gulleys and refuge areas covered with debris.
Reported via desktop in the Road surface issue category by Philip Moore at 15:52, Tuesday 20 January 2026
Sent to Shropshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 14195338.
For many months now the whole of this island and its refuge area together with the whole length of the A53 bypassing Market Drayton in a easterly (to Tern Hill island and beyond) and a westerly direction (to Red Bull and beyond) from this island, have been full of ground dirt, debris, dead leaves moss and general detritus. There is even a old blown tyre lying on the refuge area at the Island that has never been removed for over a year. Please have all this mess removed and cleared up and road gutters and drains cleared. In its present state it does not allow surface water to drain away correctly, which in turn leads to the road surface breaking up, (frost and high pressure water ingress) causing dangerous driving conditions and a higher cost of road maintenance in the long run !!

Hi Thanks for clearing one of the four refuge areas at the roundabout on the junction/island of the A53 and Adderley Road. Why though only one has been cleared of debris? Furthermore the length of the road as previously outlined in my initial report has gutters and grids full of soil, debris and dirt. This prevents all road surface water from draining away as it should and causes flooding with side of the length of road ie :- easterly (to Tern Hill island and beyond to the Hodnet roundabout at the junction of the A442 to Telford) and in a westerly direction (to Red Bull and beyond) from this Adderley road island. This has been the case now for over two years where farming contractors bring field soil on the roads and do not clear it away. Surely the road sweeper should clear the gulleys etc or the contractors be made to clear away their field waste. ? Please can this be sorted and not just responded to me as it will be, "completed in your next programme of upcoming maintenance" 'cos it never seems to happen! We used to see many road sweepers out and about in years gone by. I bet you don't have the monies or the necessary number of road sweepers any longer 'cos of cost cuts.? Well its not really good enough and I want these reports please, of blocked drains and gulleys dealt with immediately. !! Thanks.
