Potholes and road surface deterioration, causing unacceptable noise and vibrations for residents of adjacent houses. 3-6 Ellesmere Road.

Reported via desktop in the Pothole in a road category anonymously at 17:46, Wed 17 September 2025

Sent to Shropshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 14184766.

I previously reported this problem on 20th August. You changed the status of the report to closed, saying that it would be repaired as part of the routine maintenance programme, but with no indication given of any timescale. I have now checked on your website for upcoming work on this stretch of road, and nothing is planned for the next twelve months.

Please could I stress again that this is a significant problem, the noise and vibration caused is unacceptable for the residents of houses that are only one metre from the road. Could I please ask that you come and stand outside numbers three to five Ellesmere Road for a sufficient period of time so that you can appreciate the amount of noise and vibration that results when trailers and lorries hit the potholes and uneven road surface. This noise and vibration is a cause of major stress. Please do not close the report this time without giving an indication of a timescale for when this work will be done.

  • Could you please provide me with an update on this issue? I have received no reply - my report was made on 17th September. I've just rechecked the planned works for this location and there is still nothing listed in the next 12 months. Thank you.

  • The issue you reported has been assessed and added to our list of roads of engineering concern. This means more extensive work is required than simple spot repairs. It will be considered for work as part of a larger scheme of road maintenance as funding allows.

Our priority is to be effective at responding to the most serious issues. The list is not completed on a first come first served basis but based upon several risk and resource factors. A site's priority on the list changes regularly. Factors include weather related emergency work or awaiting the optimal time of year to complete works.

Due to limited and changing resources we are unable to provide an exact timescale. Often this can be months to years.

We will continue to undertake routine inspections in the meantime, whereby notifiable safety issues are recorded and scheduled for action in the interim.

For more information, please see our website at: https://next.shropshire.gov.uk/ roads-and-highways/ plans-policies-and-strategies/ asset-management/

This report will now be closed.

    State changed to: Closed
