Damaged road surface / potholes

Reported via desktop in the Road surface issue category anonymously at 13:24, Wednesday 20 August 2025

Sent to Shropshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 14183076.

I am writing to request that a road repair be carried out as soon as possible outside the terraced houses at 2-6 Ellesmere Road, Wem, SY4 5TU, where the road surface is starting to break up. This is particularly the case outside numbers 3 and 4, where potholes are starting to form where two trenches have been previously dug and filled (particularly noticeable around the ‘w’ of the painted ‘slow’ sign on the road). The houses here are very close to the road (only a metre or so) and the effects of this deteriorating surface are adversely affecting quality of life for the residents. There is increased road noise from all traffic, but particularly from lorries or anything towing a trailer. When the wheels of empty or lightly-loaded lorries or trailers pass over the damage it causes them to bounce and rattle, making a very loud noise. When the lorry or trailer is heavier and is jolted by the damaged road surface it sends vibrations through the house itself. I would like to point out that the criteria required to assess the need for repair in this case should not be the risk of damage to vehicles from the defective road surface, but the significant adverse effects on quality of life for the residents of the houses immediately adjacent to the damage.
