Open Gulley and Drain Floods Properties
Reported via mobile in the Property flooding issue category anonymously at 15:50, Monday 21 July 2025
Sent to Shropshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 14181146.
On Sunday 20th July 2025 a significant amount of rainfall caused the drains to fail as large amounts of water couldn't flow away fast enough on Rockwell Lane, Pant. The lane has an open gulley down the centre of the carriageway which frequently becomes overrun by water during heavy rain. The drain at that this Gulley leads to cannot cope with the amount of water that leads to it during storm events. A number of properties along Rockwell Lane site lower than the height of the drain leading to frequent flood risk of these properties. On Sunday, our property was flooded when the carriageway had around 4 inches of water flooding it and it began egress through our porch and into our kitchen. We will be upgrading the drainage at our property but it is my belief that the issue is that the lane requires drains beneath the carriageway to prevent floods like this in the future. Two new properties have just received planning permission on the lane too, which may further worsen this issue especially when the likely effects of climate change are added into the mix.
