Dangerously overgrown conifer hedge/trees.

Reported via mobile in the Cultivating or Planting on a Verge category anonymously at 14:25, Monday 17 February 2025

Sent to Shropshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 14170157.

Dear Sir / Madam, My name is John Herbert and I live at 6 Brookfield, Whitchurch SY13 1DU. For several years now I've been asking for the overgrown conifer hedge / trees at the top left hand side when exiting Brookfield to be cut back because you cannot see past it to enable you see oncoming traffic until you have started to exit Brookfield by which time you have gone past the point of no return, often to be the victim of abuse as a result. I realise it’s a 30MPH area but it’s made even worse by quite a lot of drivers exceeding the speed limit. This is a very dangerous situation and a serious accident possibly causing loss of life waiting to happen. Each time I've reported this the conifer hedge is barely cut back enough to sort the problem out. The problem is made worse because the residents of Sallbrook Road parking on the opposite side of the road meaning that the traffic out of Whitchurch is always on the wrong side of the road and traffic pulling out of Brookfield is often having to take avoiding action to avoid a collision. All the residents of Brookfield are together on this and agree that this hedge, for safety reasons should be removed. It protrudes about 2 mitres beyond the boundary of the owners property. If you would please have a look at this issue with the view of resolving it you may potentially save a life in the future. The hedge is not maintained and has not been maintained for many years. Not only is it a danger to traffic but it has grown to such a height and width that it takes so much light away from a lot of the residents including myself not to mention the loss of tv signal. I'm surprised that Severn Trent Water haven't been in touch with you as it's encroaching their sewage control system. In my opinion the whole hedge / tree line should be removed or at the very least cut right down and in width to an acceptable level.

Kind regards, John Herbert.

  • My wife mealy had an accident at this junction this morning. I’ve taken two photos from my car. One from the junction with my bonnet level with the give way line and one from the point of no return. My car has a short bonnet so it would be worse for anyone owning a car with a longer bonnet. It’s such a dangerous junction because of this hedge/tree-line. Is there an update on this issue?
