Lamp post has still not been repaired after 4 months!

Reported via desktop in the Street Lighting Other category anonymously at 20:44, Mon 23 December 2024

Sent to Shropshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 14163901.

The lamp post opposite 30 Poplar Street, Shifnal was hit by a vehicle on 28th August, this was reported and work to cut down the post was completed shortly after. The lamp post remains in the same condition after nearly 4 months, this is unacceptable as lighting is poor in the area due to the lack of the street light, the nights are darker and longer, increasing hazards of poor visibility that may cause an accident and security of residents property.

  • A further month has now elapsed with no action, it has now been 5 months since the lamppost was damaged, recognising that work is allocated on how serious the problem is, I'm failing to understand why a faulty lamppost that is supposed to illuminate both the road and pedestrian pathway would not been considered serious enough to rectify after 5 MONTHS! The failure to supply suitable lighting in a residential area over such a prolonged period is unacceptable and unsafe, please now treat this with the urgency it deserves.

  • A further 6 weeks has elapsed since my update dated 1st February 2025, Shropshire Council replied that the work is being planned, may I remind the authority that this was also reported on 23rd December 2024, the actual incident occurred in August 2024, the time to make the repair is simply unacceptable, as previously stated on a number of occasions, this is a significant safety and security risk, the street lighting provides illumination for both road traffic and pedestrians, if an accident should occur, I will ensure Shropshire County Council are held responsible and will take action to reflect their negligence in their obligations to ensure the community is safe and secure so far as is practicable. It is quite unacceptable that defects in street lighting such as this is going neglected for such a long period of time, I expect better. Please don't respond with another 'the work is being planned' just get it repaired..........
