Drain blocked and pothole forming around it.

Reported via desktop in the Drain blocked category anonymously at 19:20, Mon 23 December 2024

Sent to Shropshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 14163894.

This drain has been blocked for ages and now the water has caused the surrounding surface to be damaged. The rate at which the damage is increasing is astounding. It was half a brick size last Thursday, now the one side of the drain is devoid of tarmac and at least a third of another side is exposed. It is not possible to determine one other side as it is permanently under water. Please not that at least half the drains on this stretch of road are blocked, or water comes OUT of them during heavy rain. Another drain I reported opposite 'Oakdene', which is below the 100mm criteria for replacement, was tarmacked around, but is still blocked and the grid further down than it was. It needs fixing properly and the blockages cleared or further damage and potholes are inevitable, since this has been going on now for at least 3 years.

  • Yesterday, 06/01/24, water running off the field on the nearby bend, flooded the road and made it extremely dangerous. Vehicles from Craven Arms direction had no warning of the flooded road and would have been unable to brake in time to avoid hitting the floodwater. If vehicles were approaching in the opposite direction, there would be no opportunity to avoid hitting it. The drain here was replaced last year, but it is still blocked. I guess the culvert under the road, if there is on is blocked. The drain I have reported is still blocked and water from it was running down to Wayside caravan park 2-3 feets from road side. Filling potholes around the drains is pointless, unless the gulley and drains are unblocked. The one drain I reported as dropped, again, had the tarmac filled around the drain, but, it needs replacing as it has sunk further and remains blocked.

  • There is another pothole forming near Wayside Caravan park, due to the recent wet weather and the drains being blocked. A permanent fix is required here and that is to unblock the culverts, drains and gulleys.

  • What does it take to get this fixed? It is dangerous to the point where someone may be killed. I am not exaggerating. It is nearly a metre wide now and someone has hit it and lost control, driving onto the verge. The 'new one' at the entrance to Wayside campsite is of course bigger than it was. The water at the blocked drain on the bend, which was replaced but remained blocked!!!!!, now hides the replaced surface breaking up. As stated previously, unless the drains, gulleys and culverts are cleared, this will keep happening. Please get it fixed.
