Flooding due to lack of maintenance of waterways
Reported via desktop in the Standing water on the highway category anonymously at 17:26, Fri 13 December 2024
Sent to Shropshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 14163157.
Every time we get heavy rain, the weir by the side of the road opposite School House diverts the water onto the road. This is because it is not maintained or routinely cleared of accumulated debris. The same comment applies to several of the roadside drains further downstream. The result is that the road outside our property becomes a raging torrent, as the photo shows, and this has happened three times in the last two months. The force and depth of the water stops all traffic and is so strong that it is dangerous to even attempt to walk in it, cutting several houses off. Now the road surface is being broken up by the force of the water, with large suspension-damaging potholes developing. Although our property is just high enough to avoid being flooded by this torrent, the same cannot be said of some living further down.
