Waste Bins permanently left on the highway
Reported via desktop in the Other Highways issue category anonymously at 14:19, Tue 19 November 2024
Sent to Shropshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 14160454.
Household waste bins are being left permanently or semi-permanently on this part of Upper Road by adjacent residents of Hereford Road. FYI collection of household and recycled/green waste is on an alternate Friday, today is a Tuesday: it was recycled/green waste collection last Friday, so this HOUSEHOLD WASTE bin has been obstructing the highway for at least 5 days. Obstruction of the highway is an offence under the Highways Act 1980. Shropshire Council is the Highways Authority for Shropshire.

Household waste bins are still in situ on the highway at Upper Road (as denoted on your map). The household waste collection was on Friday morning (22-11-2024). Not only is this a continued obstruction of the highway it’s also denying those who wish to park lawfully in this area of a potential parking space.

We have investigated your report and it needs to be dealt with by another department, which is not currently supported by Fix My Street. Your case in this system will be closed. However, the relevant service has been informed and asked to investigate. Thank you.

This is clearly a Highways matter. These waste bins are literally left permanently or semi- permanently directly ON THE HIGHWAY and the responsibility for resolving this therefore lies under the remit of FixMyStreet via the sub-heading “Other Highways issues”. I will be making a formal complaint under the Council’s corporate complaints procedure.
