Sent to Shropshire Council 3 minutes later. Council ref: 14160211.

  • You have reported that the matter has, “ been considered but no further action required”. Unbelievable! My questions have not been answered, my requests to meet an officer on site to discuss has not been arranged. A lay-by is shown on the map yet you deny it’s a lay-by. The councillors have requested answers but if any have been given, I have yet to hear them. I will ask again as a council tax payer that I meet with a representative from fix my street and or a councillor on site. Please contact me to arrange.

  • As you approach the village from Shrewsbury there are attractive boxes made from sleepers with flowers during the season. Shortly after the Homedean farm shop there is an eye sore of what can be described as a lay-by on the left that is constantly full of puddled waters and, during the winter was churned up mud that was carried on to the road. When we arrived in August 2024, it coincided with the resurfacing of the whole road through Shawbury and I approached the county Councillor, the parish Councillor and the fix my street team requesting that they confirm whether the ‘Lay by” was indeed such and, if not, could they fill it in, re grass and plant trees to maintain the attractive approach. Despite several phone calls and emails my request to meet on site and discuss was ignored or I received "palmed off” email responses. Our bungalow was owned by a couple who obtained planning permission, 10 or so years ago, to build another property at the rear and consent was granted to create a new drive off the A53 into Meadowcroft but that a detailed visibility splay for the drive in both directions was maintained. The “lay by” , if used, blocks the visibility splay and makes it dangerous at times for us to exit safely. I would just like to meet with someone who can make decisions, confirm if it is a recognised lay by, if such get it surfaced, inform me as to whether parking on the verge is or is not legal and advise me as to whom should be responsible for policing the obstruction of the visibility splay demanded by the planning authority when originally granting permission for the new driveway.”

Please can ownership of the layby be looked into and the points that he raises be addressed?

I look forward to your response. Best wishes, Cllr Alison Williams
