Drainage system unfit for purpose

Reported via desktop in the Watercourse category anonymously at 16:07, Thu 17 October 2024

Sent to Shropshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 14157949.

This is another example of why there is a need to prioritise the action scheduled for Bushmoor Road.

As the attached photo's illustrate the existing drainage system is not fit for purpose:

1. The ditch along Bushmoor Road (2145) is full of vegetation, and rainwater runs down the road rather than down the ditch - the original plan was to have a pipe along its length? 2. The culvert at the end of the ditch is blocked (2144) 3. The rain run off therefore comes down the road and overwhelms the drains outside my neighbours at Japonica and Holly Cottages (2143) 4. As a result of the rainfall the mud from the green lane at the top of the Bushmoor Road is washed down and deposited on the road (2147 & 2150)

Evidence yet again that Bushmoor Road needs a drainage system that routes rainwater off the highway and down the ditch that was dug out about 6 years ago.

  • This issue still needs to be addressed.

  • This problem is getting worse.

The ditch was cleared earlier this month but this has clearly not fixed the problem as the pipe at the end of the ditch is again blocked with vegetation.

Water from the watercourse that runs under the road is now spilling onto the road because the pipe under the road is blocked.

My neighbours at Holly Cottage and Japonica Cottage are now in real risk of flooding.

I understand that 'Action is Scheduled' - This action needs to be taken now.

  • The gulley is blocked again and the pipe under the road is again blocked and the road is flooded.

Action is required to fix this problem.
