Raised paving slab

Reported via desktop in the Footway surface problem category anonymously at 18:15, Tue 1 October 2024

Sent to Shropshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 14156488.

At around 9.45pm on Saturday 31st August, my husband tripped on a raised paving slab when walking from St Oswalds Church to his car parked on Festival Square. The fall was very severe. Two young men came out of the Wynstay opposite and tried to lift him up. They couldn't get him up as he was in excruciating pain. So the men called 999, went to get blankets to make him more comfortable, and waited with him until the paramedics arrived. They assessed him and thought he'd broken his left hip. They managed to get him into the ambulance and took him to A&E at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. He arrived at about 11pm and was assessed in the Emergency Centre, sent for an xray in the early hours of Sunday 1st September and operated on, a partial hip replacement, at around 3pm on the Sunday. He then spent 2 weeks in RSH followed by 12 days in the Orthopaedic Hospital on a rehab ward. He was discharged home on Wednesday 25th September with Shropshire Council's START Team visiting morning and evening to help with personal care. The Community Therapy Team are also involved with the OT providing various pieces of equipment to help, and the physio to help with exercises. Recovery is gong to be a long slow process.
