Investigating
Large cracking across both carriagways (Entire width of road)
Reported via desktop in the Carriageway surface problem category anonymously at 12:56, Sun 21 July 2024
Sent to Shropshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 14151558.
This crack and the subsequent drop off in road surface is starting to become a danger for motorcyclists entering Highley from the south. The crack is negotiated whilst you are not only braking for the left hand corner to cross the bridge (loading your front wheel), but also right as you are about to turn into said corner. This unbalances a motorcycle at a critical point, which means any motorcyclist unaware of the crack runs the risk of running wide into the path of oncoming traffic. This issue is a newly developing crack that due to subsidence will only get worse and more dangerous, and while the subsidence may be too expensive to fix, the crack still needs to be resurfaced to make the road safe to ALL road users, and not just car drivers.

I have recieved no further update since 30.07.24! This issue is still there and getting progressivley worse. So far the only solution offered seems to be two 'uneven road ahead' signs that have been positioned at the site, but no response has been sent to me by the council at all as to when a repair might be scheduled, or if anything other than the minimum requirement signs is likely to happen. I remind the council that they have an duty to make the road safe for ALL road users.

The new motorcycling season is around the corner and still nothing has been done. The problem is now getting much worse, So AGAIN I remind the council that this is a safety issue for motorcyclists in particular, and that the council has a duty of care to ALL road users! Including the ones on two wheels. I will now be forwarding this issue to my MP.
