A large and destructive Pothole near Shifnal Golf Club

Reported via mobile in the Carriageway pothole category anonymously at 07:01, Wednesday 5 June 2024

Sent to Shropshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 14148120.

I had driven my new car from Manchester on Friday 24th May 2024 at around 3pm on my way to see family in Worcestershire. By taking the shortcut from Sheriffhales through to Shifnal on the B3479, after driving past one of the entrance lodges to Shifnal Golf Club, my car hit a pothole which was not visible at all from the drivers seat at around 40mph and made an awful shock to the near side front left wheel and the tyre was smashed off the alloy wheel. I have no idea how long this pothole had been in the area as I was simply passing through l, but both the very helpful residents at Drayon Road and tyre specialist at Kwik Fit Stafford Park, knew of this infamous pothole. To make this even more distressing, this was on the purchase of a specialist vehicle which has purchased for a small collection and I must admit I also feared that the suspension was damaged. With the instantly punctured tyre, the car had to be driven very slowly to Drayton Road for recovery which took around 7 hours. As this was also a bank holiday weekend I was not able to drive away from the area until the next day and had to seek accommodation for the night.
