Erosion of tarmac edge of carriageway

Sent to Shropshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 14132057.

Due to a drainage problem at the same location, the soil adjacent to the edge of the tarmac carriageway is waterlogged, has turned to mud and been displaced by the passage of larger vehicles. the edge of the tarmac road surface is eroded (narrowing the carriageway) at this point and the exposed edge of the tarmac presents a potential hazard as it stands 10cm higher than the adjacent mud. That step hazard is obscured by build-up of water which flows across the road surface in all but the driest weather.

  • The issue you reported has been assessed and the necessary work will be included in our programme of upcoming maintenance.

    Our priority is to be effective at responding to the most serious problems so at this time we are unable to provide an exact timescale.

    In the meantime until these works can be undertaken, we will continue to undertake routine inspections, whereby notifiable issues are recorded and scheduled for action.
