Sink hole appeared in road

Reported via desktop in the Pothole in a road category anonymously at 12:04, Fri 25 August 2023

Sent to Shropshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 14121347.

Customer noticed a hole that appeared overnight where the drive meets the edge of the road. There appears to be a void which is about 1 1/2 - 2 ft deep. He is concerned that someone's wheel could go down it, or someone could trip in it. He has left his phone number to call him back on, but he normally leaves it until the answerphone kicks in due to scam callers, so asked if a message could be left with contact details if he doesn't manage to get to the phone in time.

  • Customer called back as he is very concerned about the possibility of someone putting their foot through the hole and causing themselves an injury. He asked if it might be possible for someone to ring him to advise if/when a technician will be coming to have a look at it, so he can make sure he is available to meet them and show them the hole and how bad it is.

  • Following your email of 30th January in response to my email (see email trail), I am yet to hear from anyone regarding the the timelines and actions to be taken to rectify the sinkhole that has appeared.

I would appreciate if someone could please get in touch within the next 2 weeks so this can be followed up. As mentioned previously, this issue has been ongoing for 18months now!

I look forward to hearing from you.

  • Hi

I received a note from Chris at Shropshire Highways saying he called by the house. I have updated my contact details on Fix My Street.

When Chris came to the house, he would have seen that Severn Trent have applied for road closure so they can repair the stopcock in the road. ST have just started digging the road & with this, have dug into the sinkhole. I did explain to the guys digging the road that there was a sinkhole which Highways were looking into, to which they responded that ST have taken ownership of the hole & will fill it in!

If there is an issue with this, then I suggest you contact ST and come by tomorrow to ensure this is all ok. I’m assuming that as ST had applied to Highways regarding closing the road for this property, then you have already considered this.

    Many thanks

  • Further to my email yesterday, ST have completed their repair work & are now waiting for the road to be re-tarmac’s.

However, on inspection, the sink hole is still there. Although they have cut the hole in the road up to the sink hole, there does appear to still be a hole underground. I have taken a photo of the hole for your information:
