Vehicles continually mounting pavement and using as part of road

Reported via desktop in the Other Highways issue category anonymously at 10:29, Mon 24 July 2023

Sent to Shropshire Council 45 minutes later. Council ref: 14119187.

I have reported this twice already over the years and the situation is getting worse. The council really needs to start taking this issue seriously and do something about it.

Vehicles including cars, vans and HGV's are continually mounting the pavement on Bourton Road and using it as an extension to the road instead of waiting for the traffic coming down the road to clear and give them space to continue on the road as they should.

This is a highly dangerous situation as the pavement is for people not vehicles. On more than one occasion vehicles have almost hit people on the pavement. On one occasion an HGV mounted the pavement when my wife and dog were walking down it with my wife screaming at the driver who didn't give a dam. We reported this to you and the police with a vehicle registration and name of the company and neither of you did anything.

Someone is going to be seriously injured or even killed if nothing is done about this issue.

You really need to put bollards along the pavement edge to stop vehicles going on it.

Myself and other people have also told the council that HGV's are continually using the road when they shouldn't as there's a 7.5t limit and vehicles are speeding in both directions all the time.

Bourton Road is a serious accident waiting to happen unless something is done.

  • I'm really not sure how anyone would think that your response to my concerns is acceptable.

You have said nothing about what you've looked into or why you think no action is required. I'm not sure why you seem to think the safety of pedestrians isn't important and that a very dangerous situation with vehicles continually mounting the pavement and using it as part of the road isn't a problem.

Are you trying to say you won't do anything until someone is seriously injured or killed.

The pavement is for pedestrians and not for vehicles to use. The kerb is there as a separation between vehicles and pedestrians but the council seems to think its ok for vehicles to ignore the fact its a pavement.

This isn't something that happens once or twice a year it happens all day every day.

You have a duty of care to the residents of Much Wenlock.

Please contact me with a full and proper response to my concerns.

    Regards

    Paul Richards
