Direction sign on A53 damaged and missing

Reported via desktop in the Sign missing/defective category anonymously at 11:33, Monday 17 July 2023

Sent to Shropshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 14118628.

There is a direction sign missing and one post damaged following a collision in 2022. The actual sign is lying on the verge opposite. One post on the island splitter needs replacing, but this is another instance where damage has been reported and not rectified. It would be good to see some of these jobs rectified as a rate payer. Thank you

  • Hello. I received an Update yesterday confirming that this reported work was now completed. Having driven by this today, I regret to inform you that it hasn’t been touched. I sincerely hope no one has presented you with an invoice that has been paid for completed work? Just to clarify, the problem is on the splitter island approaching the roundabout on the A53 by the David Wilson development, approaching from Newcastle under Lyme (west bound). There was a vehicle in collision with this sign during 2022. The damage removed the sign showing the direction for Shrewsbury and the A53, and also one of the supporting posts was completely obliterated. I believe the actual sign was lying on the verge near the David Wilson Homes, but the verges have been cut once this year, so it may have been moved. I couldn’t see how the work had been completed as there would need to be traffic control for the protection of workers, as one post will need to be re-erected which will require machinery. Would you be able to check into this, and arrange for the work to be carried out? Thank you.

  • Please see attached photos, further to my report yesterday of uncompleted works which I have been advised are complete. The photos, taken this morning, show that the remedial works have not been completed, and demonstrate what work needs to be done, fitting a new post into the ground, and refitting the sign which is lying on the verge. Thank you .

  • I received an update this morning advising that the sign has now been replaced and the job closed. I am pleased to see the second post has been replaced, so the sign could have been refitted, but sadly it appears that it still has not been put back into place. The dislodged sign is no longer on the verge. I am concerned that SC may have been invoiced for an incomplete job. Thank you
