Speed limit needs to be introduced here

Reported via desktop in the Other Highways issue category anonymously at 12:15, Tuesday 28 February 2023

Sent to Shropshire Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 14108464.

Speed Limit through Astley Abbotts I am contacting you personally but also on behalf of an increasing number of concerned residents in our village. The road through Astley Abbotts is effectively single lane and has no center markings. The village has numerous houses along the roadside, many with very limited or even blind access onto the road. There are blind dips and corners - such as by St Calixtus church, a blind junction onto School Lane and the road often has horses and pedestrians on it as there are no pavements. Indeed, there are even warning signs at both ends of the village regarding pedestrians. However, when you turn off the B4373 heading north, once you leave Cross Lane Head where the speed limit is 40mph, it then rises to 60 mph -including through the village. I would respectfully suggest 30 mph through a built up area with clear hazards and dangers is more appropriate and is usual for this type of road. As someone who often enjoys walks and also drives into Astley Abbotts to get home, I am becoming increasingly concerned about the speed of vehicles through the village, having had a number of near misses over the last few months, particularly walking, with inconsiderate drivers going far too fast for the conditions. Last night another resident witnessed a speeding driver do a handbrake turn on the road between Astley Abbotts and Colemore Green. Could I respectfully ask you to look into the speed limit through the village as a matter of urgency and if you deem 60 mph as appropriate, given the dangers I have listed above, explain why please? With my thanks for your attention to the above
